[Index] Every Trait Confirmed in NARUTO Card Game — What 34 Readable Cards Tell Us About Deck Themes

This article is commentary and analysis by this site. To keep it distinct from official facts, reasoning and speculation are clearly labeled.

Every NARUTO Card Game card carries a trait line along its lower edge — the familiar groupings from the series: {Hidden Leaf Village}, {Team 7}, {Uchiha Clan}.

Between the July 29 reveal and the Gen Con 2026 demo cards, 22 cards now have a readable trait line. When we published the card frame primer on July 30, only 17 were legible and almost none had readable rules text. Today far more cards have readable effects — which changes what we can say.

So this article narrows to the traits themselves: which traits exist, how many cards carry each, and — the interesting part — which traits the card text actually references.

Scope note: this is compiled from cards already logged in our card database. Most come from English-language demo cards handed out at Gen Con 2026 (SAMPLE watermark, NOT FOR SALE) or sample images on the official site. Details may change in the retail product, and neither the rulebook nor the card list has been published. Where we interpret rather than report, we say so explicitly.

The Sample — 22 Cards With Readable Trait Lines

Two Leaders, four EX Characters, and sixteen Characters. The twelve small gallery images on the official site show only names and traits, so we exclude them here to keep the counts clean (they are tallied separately below, in “Appendix: Counting the 12 ARTWORK Gallery Samples Separately”).

The Full Trait Index — 22 Traits Across 22 Cards

The ordering follows a pattern: element-like traits come first, affiliation traits follow.

Group A — Traits That Appear First

  • Special (7 cards): Naruto N-004 / Shikamaru / Karin / Ino / Jugo / Manda / Orochimaru
  • Lightning (5 cards): Minato / Kakashi / Sasuke N-012 / EX Sasuke N-014 / Chidori Sasuke
  • Fire (4 cards): Jiraiya / Sasuke N-012 / Itachi / EX Sasuke N-014

  • Water (2 cards): Gamabunta / Suigetsu
  • Taijutsu (2 cards): Choji / Sakura
  • Illusion (2 cards): Itachi / Shisui

Sasuke N-012 and EX Sasuke N-014 carry both Fire and Lightning, so they are counted in each entry.

  • Hidden Sound Village (1 card): Orochimaru

{Hidden Leaf Village} leads with 12 — more than half the sample. Next come {The Taka}, {Uchiha Clan}, and {Team 7} at five apiece. What stands out is that the units smaller than a village — squads, clans, and teams — already have meaningful card counts behind them.

Added August 24, 2026: The 12 samples in the ARTWORK gallery on the official “About the NARUTO Card Game” page — the ones we left out above — do have readable names and trait lines. We kept them out of the main tally because they carry far less information than the 22, but a third of all confirmed trait data sits in these 12, so here is a separate count.

Caveats for these 12: they are SAMPLE-watermarked promotional images. Card number, rarity, cost, and effect text are all unrevealed. The printed stats are identical across all twelve (DMG 3 / POW 6 / HP 6), so we cannot confirm they reflect final values. What follows is the trait line only.

We tally the Japanese-site images here, because one card’s trait line differs between languages (see below). “Village Hidden in the Rain” is our reference translation of the Japanese wording; the English gallery image prints something else for that card.

Combined, That Is 34 Cards — and {Hidden Leaf Village} Reaches 20

The ordering is unchanged from the 22-card tally. {Hidden Leaf Village} towers over everything, with {The Taka}, {Uchiha Clan}, and {Team 7} tied behind it — a shape that survives increasing the sample by half.

Within the 12 gallery cards, the first-position traits are {Special} on 8, {Lightning} on 3, and {Wind} on 1; {Fire}, {Water}, {Taijutsu}, and {Illusion} do not appear at all. On the affiliation side, {Hidden Leaf Village} appears on 8, with {Village Hidden in the Rain}, {Akatsuki}, {The Taka}, {Uchiha Clan}, {Jinchuriki}, and {Team 7} on one card each.

One New Trait, Bringing the Confirmed Total to 23

Exactly one trait appears only in the gallery: {Village Hidden in the Rain}. It is absent from the 22 main cards, which takes the confirmed trait count from 22 to 23.

But That One Card Reads Differently in Japanese and English

The card carrying {Village Hidden in the Rain} — Orochimaruhas a different trait line on the Japanese site image than on the English site image.

SourceTrait line

English-site gallery imageSpecial / The Legendary Sannin / Village Hidden in the Sound
Gen Con 2026 demo cardSpecial / The Legendary Sannin / Village Hidden in the Sound

Even the number of traits differs — two versus three. And the demo card handed out at Gen Con, confirmed through an entirely separate route, matches the English reading.

Our read (speculation): with the Japanese gallery image standing alone against the other two, this may simply be a difference in how the promotional samples were prepared. But there is no official statement, and we cannot confirm which wording the final product will carry. Our card database records both readings in the notes on the card page. For other wording differences between language editions of the official site, see reading the official site in four languages.

The Key Finding: Only Two Traits Are Referenced by Card Text

Traits are not decoration; card text reads them. But right now, only two traits are named by any effect.

{Uchiha Clan} — Itachi Uchiha N-013

[On Play] Choose 1 Leader or Character: Reveal the top card of your deck, and if the revealed card has the {Uchiha Clan} trait, the chosen card cannot attack during your opponent’s next turn.

Flip the top card; if it is an Uchiha, one enemy is locked down. The proportion of {Uchiha Clan} cards in your deck is literally the success rate, so the incentive to concentrate the trait is written straight into the effect.

{The Taka} — EX Sasuke N-014 and Jugo N-019

The summon condition on EX Sasuke (N-014):

[Summon Condition] Trash 1 of your Characters and 1 of your Characters with the {The Taka} trait.

And Jugo (N-019):

[When Attacking] Reveal the top card of your deck, and if the revealed card is “Sasuke Uchiha” or has the {The Taka} trait and is not an EX Character, summon that card.

The Sasuke-side demo deck packs five {The Taka} cards — Leader, EX, Karin, Jugo, Suigetsu — so gathering {The Taka} is the deck’s engine. The cost of deploying EX Sasuke is {The Taka}; the card that puts more {The Taka} onto the field is Jugo. The loop is deliberate.

Meanwhile, Most Effects Reference Card Names

This was the most interesting thing to come out of the tally. Against two trait-referencing effects, name-referencing effects are just as common.

CardWhat it names
N-003EX Naruto N-003Summons “Naruto Uzumaki” from deck or trash
N-005Gamabunta N-005Summons “Naruto Uzumaki”, “Jiraiya”, or “Minato Namikaze” from trash
N-011Ino Yamanaka N-011Buffs all three if you control “Shikamaru Nara” and “Choji Akimichi
N-019Jugo N-019Sasuke Uchiha” or {The Taka}

So within what is confirmed, synergy is specified two different ways — by trait, and by name. The telling case is Ino: {Team 10} exists as a trait, yet her effect names Shikamaru and Choji individually instead of using it.

Our reading (interpretation, not official): naming a card catches every version of that character at once — and we already know multiple versions of the same character exist, from the card frame primer. A trait reference instead catches a whole theme regardless of who the character is. If both styles stay in use, deckbuilding will need not just “concentrate a trait” but also “include the cards other cards name.” No official explanation exists for this yet.

Is the First Trait the Leader’s Color? Still Unclear

The official site says Character cards can be assembled to match your Leader’s color. On July 30 we noted the possibility that the leading Wind / Fire / Lightning / Water / Special trait corresponds to that color.

More cards have since made that harder to assert:

  • The Naruto-side demo deck (N-001 through N-011) mixes Wind, Special, Water, Fire, Lightning, and Taijutsu in the lead slot (Naruto = Wind, Gamabunta = Water, Jiraiya = Fire, Kakashi = Lightning, Sakura = Taijutsu)
  • The Sasuke side likewise mixes Fire, Lightning, Special, Water, and Illusion
  • Hinata Hyuga alone leads with a clan — {Hyuga Clan} — rather than an element-like trait

Important: demo decks are built for tutorial sessions and need not follow retail deckbuilding rules. The above records what the demo decks contained; it is not evidence about construction rules.

Where we stand: whether the leading trait is the “color,” whether color is a separate element entirely, and how far construction is constrained by it are all unannounced. We will not assert an answer until the rulebook or card list is published.

What You Can Take Into Deckbuilding Today

Even with this much unannounced, some things are usable now.

  1. Themes are narrower than “village” — {Hidden Leaf Village} covers 12 cards, far too broad, while the traits effects actually read are {The Taka} and {Uchiha Clan}. Squad, clan, and team is closer to the working unit
  2. Trait density converts directly into probability — both Itachi and Jugo flip the top card and check it. Concentrating a trait is the hit rate
  3. Same-name cards will need choosing between — several “Sasuke Uchiha” cards exist with different trait lines. Which version you run depends on whether you are feeding a name reference or a trait reference

Pair this with the general procedures in deck-building basics and deck tuning.

Still Unknown

  • Official Japanese wording for the traits — this tally is English-first, and our Japanese text includes reference translations
  • The total number of traits — N-002, 015, 017, 018, and 020 remain unconfirmed, so 23 is not a final count
  • Which wording Orochimaru’s trait line will settle on — the Japanese gallery image (Village Hidden in the Rain) still conflicts with the English gallery image and the Gen Con demo card (The Legendary Sannin / Village Hidden in the Sound)
  • The relationship between traits and “color” — unannounced, as above
  • Whether traits carry construction restrictions — no information on limits like “how many of one trait”

We will update the card database and this article as new cards and official rules information are confirmed. For keywords, see the confirmed keyword index and the keyword pages; for card layout, the card frame primer.
