The CP-001 Chakra Card face is finally public — its effect text is word for word the same as C-001. The differences are the art and "NOT FOR SALE"
This article is commentary and analysis by this site. To keep it distinct from official facts, reasoning and speculation are clearly labeled.
This is part of our single-card analysis series. Today: the CP-001 Chakra Card.
No card on this site has been followed longer with less to show for it. Announced on July 8, 2026 as a Gen Con 2026 participation gift — a name and nothing else — it went on to accumulate give-away occasions across New York, Melbourne, Essen, Paris, Lucca and seven Asian cities, and still our round-up of those occasions had to keep repeating that the card image and effect text were unrevealed.
On October 13, 2026, the card face was published.
Basis for this article: every reading below comes from the image in the 参加記念品 (participation gift) section of the Japanese 先行体験会 page, published October 13, 2026 and checked October 14, 2026. The English Premier Demo Event page has no participation gift section at all, and does not carry this card image. The official rulebook and card list are still unpublished, so anything speculative is marked as such.
1. Reading the card face
The participation gift section carries one line of text:
CP-001 チャクラカード
Below it sits a single card image. This is CP-001’s first public appearance.

What can be read from it:
| Field | Printed |
|---|---|
| Card name | チャクラカード (Chakra Card) |
| Card number | CP-001 |
| Card type | CHAKRA |
| Rarity | No such field |
| Chakra cost | No such field |
| Traits | No such field |
| DMG / POW / HP | No such field |
| Illustrator | Taiga Itokazu |
| Copyright line | ©K S/S·T·P BANDAI MADE IN JAPAN |
| Other markings | NOT FOR SALE |
The effect text is a single line beneath the card name:
チャクラを使用する際、このカードを裏向きにする。 (When using Chakra, turn this card face-down.)
That is the whole card. None of the keyword notations that Character cards carry — [Activate: Main], [On Play], [Support] — appear, and there is no conditional clause. Of the fields we catalogued in our guide to reading a card face, a CHAKRA card uses only four: name, number, type and effect text.
The artwork shows Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha standing back to back, Naruto holding a kunai and Sasuke the Sword of Kusanagi, against a white field with a grey swirl. Rasengan light sits at the upper left and shattered rubble hangs between them. Where the five cards in the CHAKRA set each show one character, CP-001 is the only one that puts two on the same face.
2. The effect text does not differ by a single character
This is the crux of the card.
The CHAKRA set card images published the same day revealed that the standard Chakra Card exists as five numbers, C-001 through C-005. All five read “When using Chakra, turn this card face-down.”
CP-001’s effect text is that exact sentence.
| C-001–C-005 | CP-001 | |
|---|---|---|
| Card name | Chakra Card | Chakra Card |
| Type | CHAKRA | CHAKRA |
| Effect text | When using Chakra, turn this card face-down. | When using Chakra, turn this card face-down. |
| Rarity field | None | None |
| Cost field | None | None |
Punctuation and word order included, there is no difference. The Japanese printings match too.
CP-001’s in-game performance is therefore identical to an ordinary Chakra Card. That follows from what is printed on the card, not from inference.
3. Only three things differ
Compare the two card faces top to bottom and the differences come down to three:
- The artwork — CP-001 alone puts Naruto and Sasuke on one face, in art drawn for it (Taiga Itokazu). The standard versions are one character each
- The “NOT FOR SALE” marking on the right edge. C-001–C-005 and S-001 do not carry it, because they are the contents of the CHAKRA set, sold at ¥1,650
- No printed version name — the card name is just “Chakra Card”; nothing like “-Gen Con 2026 Ver.-” appears anywhere
That third point has been a loose thread for months. Bandai announced the Gen Con 2026 gift as “Chakra Card -Gen Con 2026 Ver.-” and the Yankee Stadium give-away as “-New York Yankees™ Ver.-”, with version names. NYCC, PAX Aus, the three European events, the seven Asian cities and now Japan’s Premier Demo Events are all plain “CP-001 Chakra Card”, no version name.
The newly published card face carries no version name either. So which printing this artwork belongs to remains unannounced. The official site does not go so far as to say that this is the art Japan’s Premier Demo Events will hand out — the relationship is simply that this image sits in the section headed “participation gift: CP-001 Chakra Card.” Whether it matches what is handed out overseas still cannot be confirmed.
4. “Promos are stronger” does not apply here
The more TCGs you have played, the more a P in a card number makes you brace for a different text. Promos with altered wording are common; promo-only cards that move a format are not rare either.
None of that applies to CP-001. Because the printed effect text is identical to the standard version, obtaining one does not let you do anything new.
What does differ is the artwork, the route to getting one, and the fact that it is not for sale. As our guide to the Chakra Card set out, Chakra Cards are the five cards you prepare at the start of a battle — the foundation the game sits on. CP-001 lets you swap part of that foundation for art only demo event attendees have. It is a card that changes how your side of the table looks, not what it does.
Past that point lies unannounced territory. Whether promo Chakra Cards are legal in official play, whether you may use duplicates of the same number among your five, whether the five must be five different numbers — with no rulebook published, there is no official ruling on any of it. We note only the fact that, beyond “NOT FOR SALE”, nothing on the card face indicates a usage restriction.
5. In Japan, from January 16, 2027
Official primary sources confirm more than fourteen give-away occasions for CP-001, listed in our round-up. For a long time none of them were in Japan. The 先行体験会 page settles that.
- First give-away day: Saturday, January 16, 2027, Dragon Star Ikebukuro
- Last give-away day: Sunday, March 21, 2027, Tournament Center Batoroko Sapporo Odori
- Applications: advance application (lottery) via BANDAI TCG+. The window for January dates opens Tuesday, December 1, 2026
Full venues, dates and application windows are in our Premier Demo Event article. Note that the Kyoto venue (March 14) appears in none of the three application groupings, and its application method is still unannounced.
6. What is still unknown
- Which printing this card face belongs to (no version name printed)
- Whether it matches the artwork handed out overseas
- How promo Chakra Cards are treated in official play (no rulebook)
- Whether duplicates of one number may be used among the five, or whether the five must differ
- Whether Chakra Cards have rarity at all (no rarity field on the card face)
- Whether CP-002 or later promos exist (
CP-currently has only CP-001)
Summary
- CP-001’s card face and effect text were published for the first time on October 13, 2026, in the participation gift section of the Japanese 先行体験会 page (absent from the English page)
- The effect text, “When using Chakra, turn this card face-down.”, is identical to C-001–C-005. There is no rarity, cost, trait or stat field on the card face
- The differences from the standard version are the artwork, the “NOT FOR SALE” marking, and the absence of a version name — three things
- The art shows Naruto and Sasuke back to back, credited to “Taiga Itokazu”. Where the standard versions show one character each, CP-001 shows two
- “A promo must be stronger” does not hold here. Its value lies in the art and the route to getting one
- In Japan it is handed out from the January 16, 2027 Premier Demo Event, with applications opening December 1, 2026
