Exactly One Revealed Card Says "Draw" — and It Doesn't Grow Your Hand. Only 2 of 38 Entries Mention the Hand at All

This article is commentary and analysis by this site. To keep it distinct from official facts, reasoning and speculation are clearly labeled.

Experienced TCG players tend to look for the same thing first when a new card list drops: card draw. How many cards say “draw 1” or “draw 2,” and what do they cost? The answer tells you roughly whether the game rewards long grindy turns or forces you to empty your hand and swing.

So we re-read all 38 entries in our NARUTO Card Game card database, searching for the words “hand” and “draw.” The result was more extreme than expected. The word “hand” appears on two cards. The word “draw” appears on one. And that one card does not increase your hand size.

About this article: The figures below are tallied from the 38 entries registered in our card database. Sources are the sample images on the official “About NARUTO Card Game” page, the official playmat handed out at Gen Con 2026, and scans of the English demo cards distributed at Gen Con 2026 (SAMPLE watermark, NOT FOR SALE marking); each card page lists its own source URL. The official rulebook has not been published, and basic rules such as draw count and hand size limit are unannounced. Demo card specifications may differ from the retail product. Where we speculate, we say so explicitly.

1. Only Two Cards Say “Hand”

Of the 38 entries, 24 have readable effect text (the rest are artwork gallery images and similar entries with no published text). Searching those 24 for “hand” returns exactly two cards.

  • Sasuke Uchiha N-012 (Leader, L / DMG 1 / POW 3 / LIFE 15)
[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn] Draw 1 card, then place 1 card from your hand on top of your deck
  • Sakura Haruno (Character, R / Cost 1 / DMG 2 / POW 6 / HP 4)
[Support] Cha! / [During Your Opponent’s Attack] Choose 1 Character: return the chosen card to its owner’s hand

The other 22 never use the word at all. For scale, here is how often the effect text mentions each zone or resource.

Zones and resources named in effect text (of 24 entries)
Summon (put onto the field)13cards
K.O.6cards
Deck5cards
Trash4cards
Chakra4cards
Hand2cards
Life2cards

The hand is the resource the revealed cards touch least. It ties with Life for last place, behind deck, trash and chakra.

2. Finding 1: The Only “Draw” Puts a Card Straight Back

The verb “draw” appears in exactly one place — the Leader effect on Sasuke Uchiha (N-012).

[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn] Draw 1 card, then place 1 card from your hand on top of your deck.

Draw one, put one back. Your hand size does not move. The only draw effect revealed so far is, in card-advantage terms, a flat zero.

What the effect is actually for is covered in the deck-top article: it swaps one card of quality while letting you choose the top of your deck — the only revealed way to make the “reveal the top card” effects on Jugo (N-019) and Manda (N-022) hit 100% of the time.

Put the other way round: not one revealed card adds cards to your hand.

The second card, Sakura Haruno, returns a Character to its owner’s hand. Aimed at an opposing Character it gives your opponent a card; aimed at your own, it gives you one back. In other words, the only revealed effect that moves hand size at all pushes cards from the field back into a hand — it never refills from the deck.

There is also no discard effect: zero of the 24 attack the opponent’s hand.

3. Finding 2: Of the 13 Cards That Summon, Zero Summon From Hand

If the hand does not grow, where does the board come from? This is where the tally got interesting.

Thirteen cards mention summoning (see every route onto the field). Nine of them name a source zone, and they break down like this.

(Naruto Uzumaki N-003 reads “from your deck or trash,” so it is counted under both.)

The 9 summon effects that name a source zone
  • Support Area (face-down) 4effects(44%)
  • Deck 3effects(33%)
  • Trash 2effects(22%)

Every revealed way of putting a Character onto the field comes from somewhere other than the hand. Five cards name no zone at all, and four of them (Minato Namikaze N-007, Ino Yamanaka N-011, Itachi Uchiha N-013, Sasuke Uchiha N-014) only use the word inside an [On Summon] or [Rush] clause.

The fifth is the interesting one — the Summon Card S-001, the card whose entire job is putting Characters onto the field. Its text says only this:

Rest this card to summon a Character card.

It does not say where the Character comes from. From the hand is the natural assumption, but that is an assumption, not something the text confirms.

4. Finding 3: Refilling the Hand Runs Through the Draw Phase Alone (as far as we can tell)

The only officially confirmed way to refill your hand is the Draw Phase.

The official playmat distributed at Gen Con 2026 confirmed a four-phase turn: Refresh → Draw → Main → End. With a phase literally named Draw, cards are certainly added to the hand there.

But how many cards you draw per turn is unannounced. And the tally above points to a single conclusion:

Within the revealed pool, no way of adding cards to your hand outside the Draw Phase has been confirmed.

If that holds in the retail product, the hand in this game is a resource that arrives at a fixed rate and cannot be accelerated — a game where the “up a card” side of card advantage and tempo simply cannot be won through hand size.

That said, the far likelier explanation is that draw cards just have not been shown yet. These 38 entries are a slice selected for a Gen Con demo — two Leaders and twenty Characters — not a representative sample of the finished set. The accurate statement is not “there are no draw effects” but “not a single draw effect has been revealed yet.”

5. Three Countable Resources Sit Outside the Hand

If the hand does not grow, what does “being up a card” mean here? The revealed information gives at least three countable resources.

  • Five Chakra
A fixed, dedicated zone set up at the start of the game. Face-up means available, face-down means spent, and the Leader’s [Recovery] turns them all face up again (see the complete chakra card guide). Shisui Uchiha N-016 — “you cannot turn your chakra face up until the end phase of your next turn” — is the only revealed effect that attacks this resource directly
  • Support Area, max 5 face-down
The playmat states the limit in print: five cards maximum, no more can be set once five are there. Twelve revealed cards carry a [Support], and the opponent cannot see what is under them (reading face-down Supports)
  • Trash
The [Summon Requirements] on all four EX Characters demand you put Characters into the trash, while Naruto Uzumaki N-003 and Gamabunta N-005 pull Characters straight back out of it (see the EX Character primer). It is a discard pile and a supply line at once
The zones a single card passes through (as far as revealed text shows)
  1. Deck50 cards. 3 effects summon straight off the top
  2. HandOnly the Draw Phase confirmed as a refill. 0 effects grow it
  3. Field / Support AreaMax 5 face-down; 4 effects summon themselves from there
  4. TrashSpent by EX Summon Requirements; 2 effects summon back out

Chakra, face-down Supports and the trash are all either publicly visible or at least countable. The hand alone is hidden from the opponent — and the hand alone is barely mentioned by the revealed cards.

6. What We Still Do Not Know

The hand is one of the biggest blanks in everything revealed so far.

  • Opening hand size. How many cards you draw at the start of the game is unannounced
  • Draw Phase draw count. One card or several, and whether the player going first draws on turn one, are both unconfirmed (see going first vs. going second)
  • Mulligans. Whether there is any way to redraw an opening hand has not been stated
  • Hand size limit. The face-down Support limit is printed as 5, but no hand limit has been revealed
  • The cost of setting a Support. If Supports are set from hand it costs a card, but whether setting one also costs chakra is unconfirmed
  • Whether normal summoning comes from hand. The Summon Card S-001 text names no zone
  • Decking out. What happens when the 50-card deck runs dry is unannounced

Summary

  • Of the 24 entries with readable text, only 2 mention the hand (Sasuke Uchiha N-012 and Sakura Haruno)
  • Only N-012 says “draw,” and it puts a card back on top of the deck, for a net change of zero. Zero cards grow your hand; zero cards attack your opponent’s hand
  • Of the 13 cards that summon, the 9 that name a source zone break down as deck 3, trash 2, face-down Support 4 — and hand 0. Even Summon Card S-001 names no zone
  • The only confirmed refill is the Draw Phase (from the official playmat). Draw count, opening hand size and hand limit are all unannounced
  • None of this means draw effects do not exist — only that not one has been revealed yet
