Does It Say "Your"? Sorting All 22 Confirmed Card Texts by Scope — and Finding Exactly One Exception
This article is commentary and analysis by this site. To keep it distinct from official facts, reasoning and speculation are clearly labeled.
The most common blunder in any card game is misreading who an effect can hit. You fire a card thinking it removes one of your opponent’s Characters, and it takes your own board with it.
The clue that prevents it is usually a single word: “your.”
Between the July 29 reveal and the Gen Con 2026 demo cards, the NARUTO Card Game now has 22 cards with readable effect text — 20 Characters plus 2 Leaders. This article sorts all 22 mechanically, by one question only: does the text say “your”?
Here is the result up front.
Everything you pay, and every zone of your own, is marked “your”. Nothing that targets a Character on the field is. Out of 22 cards, exactly one breaks that line: Ino Yamanaka (N-011).
Before we start: this is tallied from the cards registered in our card database. The sources are the sample images on the official “About NARUTO Card Game” page and scans of the English demo cards handed out at Gen Con 2026 (SAMPLE watermark, NOT FOR SALE marking). The official rulebook is unpublished, so everything below is “reading the card face exactly as printed.”
1. Where “your” appears — costs and zones
First, every place the text explicitly says “your.”
- Naruto Uzumaki N-001 (Leader)
Flip 1 of your CHAKRA face-down — Cost - Naruto Uzumaki N-001 (Leader)
flip all of your CHAKRA face-up — Own zone - Sasuke Uchiha N-012 (Leader)
place 1 card from your hand on top of your deck — Own zone - Sasuke Uchiha N-012 (Leader)
flip all of your CHAKRA face-up — Own zone - Naruto Uzumaki N-003 (EX)
Place 1 of your Characters and 1 of your Characters with 10 or more power in your trash — Cost ([Summon Requirements]) - Naruto Uzumaki N-003 (EX)
from your deck or trash — Own zone - Gamabunta N-005 (EX)
Place 1 of your Characters with 10 or more power in your trash — Cost ([Summon Requirements]) - Gamabunta N-005 (EX)
from your trash — Own zone - Sasuke Uchiha N-014 (EX)
Place 1 of your Characters and 1 of your {The Taka} type Characters in your trash — Cost ([Summon Requirements]) - Manda N-022 (EX)
Place 1 of your Characters in your trash — Cost ([Summon Requirements]) - Manda N-022 (EX)
Reveal the top card of your deck — Own zone - Itachi Uchiha N-013
Reveal the top card of your deck — Own zone - Jugo N-019
Reveal the top card of your deck — Own zone - Kakashi Hatake N-009
reduce your life by 2 — Own resource - Karin N-010
you gain 2 Life — Own resource - Shisui Uchiha N-016
you cannot turn your CHAKRA face-up — Own resource - Ino Yamanaka N-011
If you have [Shikamaru Nara] and [Choji Akimichi] on the field / your [Ino Yamanaka], [Shikamaru Nara], and [Choji Akimichi] all gain… — Characters on the field
Sixteen of these seventeen are either a cost, or one of your own zones and resources. Deck, trash, hand, Chakra, life — every resource exchange covered in the Chakra article and the summoning routes article stays entirely on your own side of the table.
The last entry, Ino Yamanaka N-011, is the odd one out. More on that below.
2. Where “your” is absent — effects that target the field
Now every effect that targets a Character on the field.
| Card | Effect | Who it can hit, as printed |
|---|---|---|
| N-001Naruto Uzumaki N-001 (Leader) | Choose 1 Character: +3 power this turn | Either side |
| Choji Akimichi (Expansion Jutsu) | Choose 1 Character: power is doubled this turn | Either side |
| N-021Suigetsu Hozuki N-021 (Water Transformation Jutsu) | Choose 1 Character: not affected by your opponent’s Support effects | Either side |
| Sakura Haruno (Cha!) | Choose 1 Character: return it to the owner’s hand | Either side |
| N-014Sasuke Uchiha N-014 (EX, On Summon) | Choose 1 Character: K.O. it | Either side |
| Hinata Hyuga (Air Palm) | Choose 1 non-EX Character: K.O. it | Either side (no EX) |
| N-006Jiraiya N-006 (Toad Flame Bombs) | Choose up to 2 rested Characters: K.O. them | Either side (rested only) |
| Orochimaru (Striking Shadow Snake) | Choose up to 2 rested Characters: K.O. them | Either side (rested only) |
| N-013Itachi Uchiha N-013 (On Summon) | Choose 1 Leader or Character: cannot attack | Either side plus Leaders |
| N-004Naruto Uzumaki N-004 (Rasengan) | K.O. all Characters | Everything |
| Sasuke Uchiha (Chidori) | K.O. all Characters | Everything |
Not one of these eleven says “your.” They narrow the target in other ways — “non-EX,” “rested” — but not one of them narrows it by which player controls the Character.
For completeness: “this Character” on Minato Namikaze N-007, and “Summon this card” on Shikamaru Nara N-008 and Karin N-010, refer to the card itself and sit outside this table.
3. Finding 1: the line falls between what you pay and what you aim at
Put sections 1 and 2 side by side and the boundary is clean.
| Category | “your”? | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Costs ([Summon Requirements] and payments) | Always | all 5 |
| Zones and resources (deck, trash, hand, Chakra, life) | Always | all 11 |
| Effects targeting Characters on the field | Never | all 11 cards |
| (Exception) | Present | Ino Yamanaka N-011 only |
In other words:
What you hand over is marked “your”. What you aim at is not.
That gives you a practical check at the table. Read the text, look for “your.” If it is there, the clause concerns something you pay or a zone of your own. If it is not, the clause reaches both sides of the table.
Unconfirmed: whether there is an unprinted rules-level restriction on “choose” (for example, a comprehensive rule stating that effects cannot target an opponent’s cards by default) cannot be checked, because the official rulebook is unpublished. Everything above is “as printed on the card face,” and needs re-verifying once the retail rules are out.
4. Finding 2: the one exception, and why it is one
Here is the text of Ino Yamanaka N-011 in full.
[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn] If you have [Shikamaru Nara] and [Choji Akimichi] on the field, your [Ino Yamanaka], [Shikamaru Nara], and [Choji Akimichi] all gain [Rush] and +5 power/+1 damage during this turn.
This is the only card that restricts Characters on the field with “your” — and it does so twice.
The reason becomes clear from the shape of the sentence. The other eleven cards say “choose 1 Character” — the player picks the target one at a time, so whether their own Character is a legal pick is a decision, not a problem.
Ino Yamanaka instead names cards and applies the effect to “all” of them at once. Without a restriction, that phrasing would sweep up matching cards on the opponent’s board too. As our roster of 20 characters and 34 cards shows, this game already has many alternate versions of the same character. If your opponent is playing an Ino–Shika–Cho deck, a “Shikamaru Nara” across the table is an ordinary occurrence.
A “choose” effect does not need the restriction. An “all” effect does.
The same logic reads in reverse for the “all” effects that were left unrestricted. Rasengan and Chidori say “K.O. all Characters” with no “your” — meaning your own board goes too. Ino Yamanaka adding the word and the board wipes omitting it look like deliberate, opposite choices.
5. Finding 3: the Japanese text has the same structure
Since our Japanese wording includes reference translations, we checked whether the Japanese card faces show the same structure. They do.
| English | Japanese |
|---|---|
| Place 1 of your Characters in your trash | 自分のキャラ1枚をトラッシュに置く |
| Reveal the top card of your deck | 自分のデッキの上から1枚公開し |
| place 1 card from your hand on top of your deck | 自分の手札1枚をデッキの上に置く |
| Flip 1 of your CHAKRA face-down | 自分のチャクラ1枚を裏向きにし |
| reduce your life by 2 | 自分のライフを2減らす |
| Choose 1 Character | キャラ1枚を選ぶ(no 自分の) |
| Choose 1 non-EX Character | EXキャラ以外のキャラ1枚を選ぶ(no 自分の) |
| Choose up to 2 rested Characters | レスト状態のキャラを2枚まで選ぶ(no 自分の) |
| K.O. all Characters | キャラすべてをKOする(no 自分の) |
| your [Ino Yamanaka]… | 自分の「山中いの」… |
“Your” on costs and zones, absent on targets, one exception — the structure maps one to one. There are other places where the two language versions diverge, but this particular line does not wobble between them. That points to a design decision rather than a translation artifact.
6. Four things this changes at the table
(1) Both board wipes take your own board with them
Rasengan and Chidori both K.O. all Characters, so the player firing them pays too. Their trigger is During Your Main, which — as covered in reading face-down Supports — means they cannot come down during your opponent’s main phase. The practical rule of thumb: if you are going to commit to the board, commit before their main phase, not into it.
(2) Sakura Haruno says “the owner’s” — so she can rescue your own Character
Sakura Haruno’s Cha! is the only card that says neither “your” nor “your opponent’s” but “the owner’s hand.”
Because it is not restricted to your side, the printed text allows you to choose your own Character. If you do, it goes back to your hand. That opens up:
- pulling one of your Characters out of danger before it is K.O.‘d
- re-using an [On Summon] effect by picking the Character back up (Itachi Uchiha N-013 or Manda N-022, for example)
This is the only confirmed card that moves a Character from the field back to hand, which makes the option worth remembering.
(3) Only Itachi Uchiha can point at a Leader
Itachi Uchiha N-013’s [On Summon] reads “Choose 1 Leader or Character.” Among all 22 confirmed cards, this is the only one that can target a Leader card.
It is conditional on revealing an {Uchiha Clan} card, but when it connects, it stops the opposing Leader from attacking next turn. Both confirmed Leaders have DMG 1, so the damage denied is small — but combined with Recovery, it removes one of the opponent’s options for a turn.
(4) Pump effects can legally be pointed at the opponent
Choji Akimichi’s Expansion Jutsu (double power), Suigetsu Hozuki N-021’s Water Transformation Jutsu, and Leader Naruto N-001’s +3 all say “Choose 1 Character,” so choosing an opposing Character is legal as printed.
There is almost no use for it today — you would just be buffing them. But knowing that it is allowed matters as soon as effects start caring about a Character’s power. Minato Namikaze N-007 already carries a power-referencing condition (“If this Character has 10 or more power, it gains [Rush]”), and the more such references appear, the more situations there will be where handing a buff across the table is not obviously wrong.
7. One more finding: nothing reaches an opponent’s hidden zones
While counting “your,” one more pattern fell out. Not one of the 22 confirmed cards touches an opponent’s hidden zones.
| What you can do to your opponent | Confirmed cards |
|---|---|
| K.O. a Character on the field | 6 (Rasengan / Chidori / Air Palm / Toad Flame Bombs / Striking Shadow Snake / EX Sasuke [On Summon]) |
| Return a Character to hand | 1 (Cha!) |
| Stop an attack or negate a Support | 4 (Shadow Possession Jutsu / Itachi Uchiha [On Summon] / Lightning Blade / Koto Amatsukami) |
| Look at or manipulate their deck | 0 |
| Discard from or look at their hand | 0 |
| Manipulate their Chakra | 0 |
Every deck-peeking effect (Itachi Uchiha, Jugo, Manda) targets your own deck, and every Chakra-manipulating effect (both Leaders, Shisui Uchiha) targets your own Chakra.
So the NARUTO Card Game, as it stands, looks like a game where interaction is concentrated on the board. No hand disruption, no deck disruption — games are decided by the fight over Characters actually in play. With only 22 cards revealed, that could change as the pool grows; this count is a baseline to measure the change against.
What we still do not know
- Whether “choose” has an unprinted restriction — unannounced. Every reading here is prefaced with “as printed”
- Where a K.O.‘d Character goes — the trash is the natural assumption, but it has not been stated officially. Until it is, the interaction between board wipes and [Summon Requirements] (can you K.O. your own Characters to fuel an EX?) cannot be worked out
- How “cannot be affected” protection works — Water Transformation Jutsu’s “will not be affected by your opponent’s Support effects” is the only confirmed example, and whether it blocks targeting itself or only the application of the effect is unconfirmed
- Same-name handling — the reading that Ino Yamanaka’s effect could otherwise sweep up an opponent’s copies assumes the same name can legally appear on both boards. Deck construction limits and mirror-match handling are unannounced
Every confirmed card is browsable one by one in the card database. For the card face layout see how to read a card, for the bracketed notations see the keyword list and the keyword index, and for the terms that appear in card text see the glossary. To work through the basics in order, start from the improvement roadmap.
We will update this tally as new cards are revealed.
