Naruto Uzumaki Leader (N-001) has no [Once Per Turn] on its [Activate: Main] — how you split five chakra is the whole card

This article is commentary and analysis by this site. To keep it distinct from official facts, reasoning and speculation are clearly labeled.

While reading Gamabunta (N-005) in the first of these single-card articles, one card kept coming up as the route to “10 or more power”: Naruto Uzumaki Leader (N-001).

We have covered this Leader before, in the article comparing the two revealed Leaders side by side. That one was about the differences between two cards. This is about N-001 on its own, from the perspective of playing it. The short version: almost everything about this card comes down to how you split five chakra.

About this article: the figures below come from our own card database. N-001’s frame was read from the sample image in the how-to-play section of the official “About the NARUTO Card Game” page (SAMPLE watermark, NOT FOR SALE marking); the badge name [Recovery] is taken from the English-version image. Details may change in the retail release, and the official rulebook and card list are still unpublished. Anything speculative is marked as such.

1. Reading the frame

Two lines of effect text:

[Activate: Main] Flip 1 of your CHAKRA face-down and choose 1 Character: The chosen card gets +3 power during this turn. [Recovery] If it is the second turn or later, rest this card and flip all of your CHAKRA face-up.

The second line is word-for-word identical to Sasuke Uchiha Leader (N-012). As set out in the Leader comparison, it looks like a shared baseline function for Leaders.

What this article digs into is the first line, and the fact that both lines are fighting over the same resource.

2. The missing [Once Per Turn]

Two Leaders are revealed. Line up how their [Activate: Main] opens:

OpeningWhat it costs
N-001Naruto Uzumaki (N-001)[Activate: Main]Flip 1 chakra face-down
N-012Sasuke Uchiha (N-012)[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn]Nothing

Only Sasuke carries the usage limit. Across all 38 cards in the database, [Once Per Turn] appears on exactly two — that Sasuke and Ino Yamanaka (N-011). It is not printed on the Naruto Leader.

Read literally, N-001’s [Activate: Main] can be used more than once per turn. That does not mean “as often as you like”, though. The ceiling is set by the resource, not by the text.

Unconfirmed: whether the absence of [Once Per Turn] really means unlimited use cannot be verified while the official rulebook is unpublished — there may be a general rule about activated abilities elsewhere. We treat it here as a fact about what is printed on the card.

3. Five chakra, and only one pocket

The official site states that a game starts with 1 Leader card, a 50-card deck, 5 Chakra Cards and 1 Summon Card. So chakra is a five-card resource.

Those same five cards also pay to put Characters on the board. As counted in the cost analysis, 12 revealed cards have a legible cost box: 8 at cost 1 and 4 at cost 2.

Which makes a turn look roughly like this:

What five chakra buys (from revealed cost boxes)
Summon one cost-2 Character 4 revealed cards2chakra
Summon one cost-1 Character 8 revealed cards1chakra
[Activate: Main] for +3 power per use1chakra

Summon one cost-2 Character and three chakra are left, then each +3 takes one more. “No usage limit” is, in practice, a question of how you divide five.

This is the same contrast the comparison article framed as “Sasuke: free but once per turn; Naruto: paid but unlimited” — seen from the player’s side. Sasuke’s ability spends no chakra, so it never competes with summoning. Naruto’s does.

4. [Recovery] — you can stand your chakra back up, but not for free

The second line again:

[Recovery] If it is the second turn or later, rest this card and flip all of your CHAKRA face-up.

It turns every face-down chakra back up. From the second turn onward, spent chakra can be recovered.

The catch is that [Recovery] rests the Leader itself. What happens to a rested Leader (can it not attack? is it worse off when attacked?) is unknown while the rulebook is unpublished, but the card does make clear it is not free.

Speculation from here: if you can use [Recovery] and then spend the chakra it just stood up on [Activate: Main], N-001 can buy extra +3 activations at the price of resting its Leader. How many times [Recovery] can be used in a turn, and whether [Activate: Main] works while the Leader is rested, are both unconfirmed.

5. What does +3 actually clear?

To the numbers. 20 revealed Characters have legible stats. Their HP spread:

HP spread across the 20 revealed Characters
HP 3–46cards
HP 5–77cards
HP 8 or more7cards

On power, the split is 10 cards at 4–6, seven at 7–9, three at 10 or more. Adding +3:

  • The ten small Characters at power 4–6 move into the 7–9 band — the same band as Jiraiya (N-006) and Kakashi Hatake (N-009)
  • The seven mid-size Characters at 7–9 move into the 10–12 band — the same band as the three cards printed at 10 or more, all of which are EX Characters
  • On the HP side, 13 of the 20 sit at HP 7 or less, so a body at power 7 or more can meet most of the revealed pool

Unconfirmed: how power and HP are actually compared (does a Character with power at or above the defender’s HP K.O. it? does DMG chip HP instead?) cannot be verified while the rulebook is unpublished. The reading above assumes only that higher power is better; combat resolution itself has not been announced. The same gap is flagged in the character stats overview.

6. +3 is also a number that crosses the “power 10” line

Two revealed cards write “10 or more power” as a condition.

Minato is printed at 8. +3 puts him at exactly 11, over the line. Gamabunta’s requirement uses the same threshold of 10.

So N-001’s +3 is not just extra damage — it is a number that can flip a switch written on another card. That is the boundary the [Rush] and power-10 article described as showing up in three places.

Unconfirmed: nothing anywhere states whether power gained from an effect counts toward these checks. “+3 power during this turn” is a modifier with a duration (see the effect-duration article); nothing says the printed value itself is rewritten. Until that is settled, both “buff Minato into [Rush]” and “buff a Character into Gamabunta’s requirement” are readings that may or may not hold. This is as far as the revealed information goes.

7. The trait line — nothing points at it yet

The Leader’s traits are {Wind} / {Jinchuriki} / {Hidden Leaf Village} / {Team 7}. Counts across the database:

TraitCards in the 38-card database
Hidden Leaf Village20
Team 76
Wind4
Jinchuriki4

{Hidden Leaf Village} is the most common trait revealed. But as sorted in the traits index, the traits effect text actually references are limited to {The Taka}, {Uchiha Clan} and a few others — and not one revealed card references any of N-001’s four traits.

Speculation from here: the official site says Character cards “can be built around the Leader’s color”. The {Wind} at the head of the trait line may be that color. But the official side has never explained how “color” relates to the trait line, so this is unverified.

8. Still unknown

  • Whether no [Once Per Turn] really means unlimited use (the general rules for activated abilities are unpublished)
  • How many times [Recovery] can be used per turn, and whether [Activate: Main] works while the Leader is rested
  • Whether a temporary power buff counts toward “10 or more power” (section 6)
  • Whether “1 Character” in [Activate: Main] includes the opponent’s Characters (the text does not say “your”)
  • Whether Leaders attack at all (what POW 3 and DMG 1 are actually used for)
  • How the “Leader’s color” relates to the trait line

All of it waits on the official rulebook. We will update the card page and this article as things are confirmed.

Summary

  • Naruto Uzumaki (N-001) is a Leader at rarity L with LIFE 15 / POW 3 / DMG 1, and two lines of text: [Activate: Main] and [Recovery]
  • The [Activate: Main] carries no [Once Per Turn] — the only one of the two revealed Leaders without a printed usage limit
  • But it spends 1 chakra per use, and chakra is a five-card resource shared with Character summon costs, so the real ceiling is set by what else you did that turn
  • +3 power lifts the ten small revealed Characters into the mid band and the seven mid-size ones into the band of the EX Characters. 13 of the 20 revealed Characters have HP 7 or less
  • +3 also crosses the “10 or more power” line used by two revealed cards (Minato Namikaze, Gamabunta) — though whether a temporary buff counts for those checks is unconfirmed
