Sasuke Uchiha Leader (N-012) Is the Only Known Card That Says "Draw" — And Your Hand Still Does Not Grow, Because Nothing Known Can Grow It
This article is commentary and analysis by this site. To keep it distinct from official facts, reasoning and speculation are clearly labeled.
This is the 14th article in our single-card analysis series. Today we read Sasuke Uchiha Leader (N-012).
This card turned up in our August 5 comparison of the two known Leaders, in our August 10 article on cards that touch the top of the deck, and in yesterday’s read of Jugo (N-019). Always as the supporting piece — never as the subject.
Read head-on, that unremarkable line contains a word that appears nowhere else among the 38 known entries.
About this article: N-012’s card face comes from two sources — the sample image in the how-to-play section of the official “About the NARUTO Card Game” page (SAMPLE watermark, NOT FOR SALE marking) and high-resolution scan images of the English demo card handed out at Gen Con 2026, posted by an X user. The card number was hidden behind the diagram’s LIFE highlight on the official site, so the number N-012 and the “L” rarity come from the latter. The [Recovery] badge name is taken from the English image; the Japanese wording is too small to read. Because no official image shows this card on its own, this article does not include a quoted card image (the official diagram is a composite of several cards, and cropping it would not satisfy the requirements for quotation). All counts are taken from the 38 entries in our card database, 24 of which have readable effect text. The official rulebook and card list are still unpublished, and we clearly separate speculation from confirmed fact.
1. Reading the card face
| Item | Printed |
|---|---|
| Card name | Sasuke Uchiha |
| Card number | N-012 |
| Card type | Leader |
| Rarity | L |
| LIFE | 15 |
| POW | 3 |
| DMG | 1 |
| Types | Fire / Lightning / Uchiha Clan / The Taka |
The card has two lines of text.
[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn] Draw 1 card and place 1 card from your hand on top of your deck. [Recovery] If it is the second turn or later, rest this card and flip all of your CHAKRA face-up.
The second line is word for word identical to Naruto Uzumaki Leader (N-001). Everything that makes this Leader distinct is therefore in the first line alone.
2. The only known card that says “draw”
Search all 24 readable effect texts for “draw” and you get one hit.
Draw 1 card and place 1 card from your hand on top of your deck.
The other 23 never mention drawing. Counting which zones the known effects reach into makes the skew obvious.
Only two cards touch the hand at all. The other is Sakura Haruno: “Choose 1 Character: return the chosen card to its owner’s hand.”
What matters here is that neither of them increases hand size.
- N-012: draw one, put one back. Net ±0
- Sakura Haruno: a Character returns to hand, so the hand is +1 — but the board is −1 (and since it says “its owner’s”, the target can be the opponent’s Character)
Not one of the 38 known entries adds cards to your hand on net.
That fact is what gives N-012’s single line its meaning.
This part is speculation: the known cards are essentially limited to the two Gen Con demo decks, so this may well be sampling bias from a pair of decks trimmed for demo play. Retail sets may well include draw. But in the world of cards published so far, the hand is a resource that only grows in the draw phase.
3. So this line moves quality, not quantity
If the hand cannot grow, what is the [Activate: Main] doing? Swapping.
One card in, one card out. The total never changes, while both the contents of your hand and the top of your deck are rewritten. A single activation moves two places at once.
- Draw 1 from the top of the deckHand +1
- Choose 1 card from your handApparently including the card just drawn
- Place it on top of the deckHand −1 / deck top locked in
- ResultHand size ±0 / contents and top both changed
As we set out in the August 10 article, this is an ability with two modes you pick between every turn.
- Fix your hand — bury a dead card and swap what you draw next
- Stack the top — put a hit on top of the deck and reveal it that same turn
This part is unconfirmed: whether “1 card from your hand” includes the card you just drew is not spelled out. Read in written order you choose after drawing, which suggests you can put the drawn card straight back, but there is no official statement. It decides whether a whiffed draw can be undone.
4. Zero payment — all five Chakra stay available
Three known cards carry [Activate: Main]. Here is what each pays.
| Card | Payment | Use limit |
|---|---|---|
| N-001Naruto Uzumaki Leader N-001 | Turn 1 of your Chakra face-down | None written |
| N-011Ino Yamanaka N-011 | None | [Once Per Turn] |
| Sasuke Uchiha Leader N-012 | None | [Once Per Turn] |
Two cards write no payment, but N-011 is a Character card that has to be on the field first. That leaves N-012 as the only card that can be activated reliably every turn without spending a single Chakra.
Why that matters comes down to the resource structure we covered in our Chakra card article. The official explanation is that a game starts with 1 Leader card, a 50-card deck, 5 Chakra cards and 1 Summon card, so Chakra is capped at five. And here is the cost spread across the 12 known cards with a readable cost.
Five Chakra buys five cost-1 Characters in a turn, or two cost-2 plus one cost-1 — and no more. N-001’s Leader ability (power +3) pulls from that same wallet. That is why our N-001 article concluded that the card is almost entirely a question of how you split five Chakra.
N-012 never has to make that split.
You can use this Leader ability every turn and still keep all five Chakra for summoning.
What it pays instead is the subject of the next section.
5. [Once Per Turn] appears on just two known cards — the price tag on “free”
Only two known cards carry [Once Per Turn].
| Card | What the once-per-turn ability does | Payment |
|---|---|---|
| N-011Ino Yamanaka N-011 | If you have “Shikamaru Nara” and “Choji Akimichi”, all three gain [Rush] and power +5 / damage +1 | None (the board requirement is the real cost) |
| Sasuke Uchiha Leader N-012 | Draw 1, place 1 from hand on top of the deck | None |
Lay the three known [Activate: Main] abilities out on the two axes of payment and use limit, and they pair up cleanly.
| Pays something | Pays nothing | |
|---|---|---|
| No use limit | N-001 (1 Chakra / power +3) | — |
| Use limit | — | N-011 and N-012 |
Either “pay a resource and repeat it” or “free but once a turn.” All three known cards fall into one of those two boxes, with no exceptions. N-012 is the textbook case of the second.
This part is unconfirmed: whether [Once Per Turn] means once on your own turn or once across both turns has not been announced. The name [Activate: Main] points to the main phase, and the four-phase structure read off the official playmat has no phase for interrupting the opponent’s turn, so it effectively reads as once on your turn — but nothing official says so.
6. Three payoffs for a stacked top — and N-012 can guarantee all of them
Three known cards reveal the top of the deck. Here is what N-012 would need to place from hand to satisfy each.
| Payoff | Hit condition | What N-012 should place |
|---|---|---|
| N-022Manda N-022 | A Character other than an EX Character | Any non-EX Character |
| N-013Itachi Uchiha N-013 | Has the {Uchiha Clan} type | An {Uchiha Clan} card (6 known) |
| N-019Jugo N-019 | “Sasuke Uchiha” or {The Taka}, and not an EX Character | A non-EX {The Taka} Character (3 known), among others |
All three are guaranteed hits as long as one qualifying card sits in your hand.
Yesterday’s Jugo article framed this from Jugo’s side — “the one card that can stack that narrow hit sits in the Leader slot.” From N-012’s side, the payoff is not one card but three, and their conditions differ in width, so you can pick based on what is left in hand.
And N-012’s own type box overlaps with two of the three hit conditions.
The card name “Sasuke Uchiha”, {The Taka} and {Uchiha Clan} — N-012 has all of them. But a Leader card is not in the deck, so N-012 itself is never revealed. What actually meshes is the pool of deck cards sharing those types.
This part is unconfirmed: whether the Leader’s [Activate: Main] and attacking can be done in either order within the same main phase has not been announced. The four-phase structure has nothing corresponding to a battle phase, which makes attacking during the main phase the natural reading, but there is no official statement. Whether “stack, then swing” works at all is waiting on the rulebook — and if it does not, the combination with Jugo’s [When Attacking] simply does not function.
7. The two Leaders are numerically identical
Finally, set it beside the other Leader.
| N-001Naruto Uzumaki N-001 | N-012Sasuke Uchiha N-012 | |
|---|---|---|
| Rarity | L | L |
| LIFE | 15 | 15 |
| POW | 3 | 3 |
| DMG | 1 | 1 |
| [Recovery] | If it is the second turn or later, rest this card and flip all of your CHAKRA face-up. | Same text |
Not one printed number differs. The only differences are one [Activate: Main] line and four words in the type box.
As our rarity count (August 17) established, rarity L covers exactly these two cards. So far, Leaders appear to differentiate through one ability line and their types, not through numbers.
This part is speculation: with only two known Leaders, there is no way to tell whether this is a design rule for all Leaders or simply two demo cards deliberately matched. LIFE 15 read against the DMG spread (11 cards at DMG 1, seven at 2, two at 3) works out to 15 connected attacks from a DMG 1 Character or five from a DMG 3 EX Character — but whether a connected attack actually reduces LIFE by the DMG value is also unannounced.
8. What we still do not know
- Whether “1 card from your hand” includes the card just drawn
- Whether [Once Per Turn] covers the opponent’s turn as well
- The ordering of [Activate: Main] and attacking (the phase in which attacks happen is unannounced)
- How many cards the draw phase draws (so we cannot compute how much of a stacked top gets drawn back next turn)
- Copy limits for cards of the same name (so we cannot fix how many hits a deck can run)
- What the “color” system actually is — whether a Leader with both {Fire} and {Lightning} can use cards of either color is unannounced
- The Japanese wording of the [Recovery] badge (confirmed only in the English image)
All of it waits on the official rulebook and card list. We will update the card database page and this article as things are confirmed.
Summary
- Sasuke Uchiha (N-012) is a Leader card, rarity L: LIFE 15 / POW 3 / DMG 1, types {Fire} {Lightning} {Uchiha Clan} {The Taka}
- It is the only known card whose effect text says “draw” — and because the drawn card is paid back by placing one card from hand on top of the deck, hand size does not change
- Zero of the 38 known entries add cards to your hand on net. Only two cards touch the hand at all. In a world where quantity cannot grow, this Leader alone moves quality every turn
- Of the three known [Activate: Main] abilities, only N-011 and N-012 write no payment. N-012 is the only one that can be used reliably every turn, so all five Chakra stay available for summoning
- [Once Per Turn] appears on just two known cards. Every known [Activate: Main] is either “pay and repeat” or “free but once”, with no exceptions
- There are three payoffs for a stacked top (N-022 / N-013 / N-019), and N-012 can guarantee the hit on all three given the right card in hand
- The two Leaders match on every printed number and on the wording of [Recovery]. The differences are one ability line and the type box
