Card numbers run from N-001 to N-022 — but five slots are blank, and exactly five cards have no readable number

A card number is more than a filing label. Knowing how high the numbers go tells you the scale of a set, and knowing which numbers are missing lets you count how many cards you have not seen yet.

The NARUTO Card Game launches in summer 2027, and not a single official card list has been published. Even so, every card whose face we have been able to read carries a printed number. What happens if we pull out just those numbers and line them up? That is the whole of this article.

Basis for this article: the sample is the 38 entries registered in our card database. How each number was confirmed differs by card — some come from sample card images on the official site, others from images of the physical demo cards handed out at Gen Con 2026 (marked with a SAMPLE watermark and “NOT FOR SALE”). The confirmation method is written into the notes field of each card. As of September 7, 2026, no official card list showing the number assignments has been published.

1. There are four card-number prefixes

First, the letters in front of the number. Four are confirmed.

C, S and CP all stop at “001.” The Chakra Card and Summon Card each appear once on the official how-to-play page as an illustration of the card type; whether a second one exists is unknown.

CP is the odd one out. Two different “versions” share the single number CP-001.

In other words, CP is a slot where design variants are stacked onto one number. The giveaways still to come are also described officially as “CP-001 Chakra Card,” and there are 14 distribution occasions on record. CP-002 has not appeared once.

2. The N series — 17 filled, five blank

Here is the main event: the 17 main-series cards whose numbers we can read, in order.

The open slots are N-002, N-015, N-017, N-018 and N-020 — five of them.

3. Exactly five cards have no readable number

Now the other kind of blank. The database also holds cards whose face we can read, except for the card number.

  The number is cut off in the scan

Five cards. Five blank numbers, five unnumbered cards.

But no official source says the two sets map onto each other. These five could carry numbers from N-023 upward, and the five blanks could belong to cards nobody has seen yet. All we can confirm is that the counts match.

4. Why it stops at 22 — it matches the demo deck size

The highest known number is N-022. Now count the demo decks handed out at Gen Con 2026.

The two demo decks contain exactly 22 distinct cards — the same as the highest known number, N-022. (The deck contents are broken down in reading the demo deck lists.)

The breakdown lines up too. All 17 numbered cards are demo-deck cards, and all five unnumbered cards are demo-deck cards. 17 + 5 = 22.

It is tempting to conclude that the 22 demo cards fill N-001 through N-022 exactly — but nothing official says so, and as the next section shows, the ordering has a wrinkle that a simple rule does not explain.

5. It looks like two blocks of eleven — with one exception

Reorder the numbers by which demo deck each card came from and a pattern appears.

• N-001 to N-011 (11 slots): N-001 is the Naruto Leader. Of the 10 numbered cards in this band, nine are Naruto-deck cards
• N-012 to N-022 (11 slots): N-012 is the Sasuke Leader. All seven numbered cards in this band are Sasuke-deck cards

A Leader at the head of each band, eleven numbers apiece. Except that one card breaks it.

That card is Karin, N-010. Karin has the {Hawk} type and sat in the Sasuke demo deck, yet her number falls in the Naruto band.

Because of that one card, “band equals deck” cannot be stated as a rule. And there is a second problem with the arithmetic.

• Three Naruto-deck cards have no readable number (Choji Akimichi, Hinata Hyuga, Sakura Haruno)
• But only one slot, N-002, is free in the N-001–N-011 band

Three cards do not fit into one slot. So at least two Naruto-deck cards must carry numbers from the N-012–N-022 band or from N-023 upward — assuming our reading of Karin as N-010 is correct.

The history of that reading is recorded in the card database. We first attributed N-010 to Hinata Hyuga based on a venue photo, then a high-resolution scan confirmed N-010 is Karin, and Hinata’s number was corrected to unconfirmed. Had that reading gone the other way, band and deck would line up perfectly. For now we go with the reading we can verify.

6. The cards with no number at all — the 12 artwork samples

One more group belongs in a discussion of numbering: the 12 cards in the ARTWORK gallery on the official “About the NARUTO Card Game” page.

Those images are SAMPLE-watermarked mockups with no card number, rarity, cost or effect text. The printed stats are identical across all 12 (DMG 3 / POW 6 / HP 6), so it is unknown whether they reflect final values.

• The characters in the gallery: Orochimaru, Boruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki, Jiraiya, Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke Uchiha (Hawk), Naruto Uzumaki (Wind), Sakura Haruno, Tsunade, Sasuke Uchiha (Uchiha Clan), Naruto Uzumaki (Team 7)

Boruto Uzumaki and Tsunade appear nowhere else. They are not in the demo decks and have no known number. Whether they occupy any of the five blank N slots, or sit in an entirely different band, cannot be judged from what is public.

7. The tally

Sorting all 38 database entries by the state of their number:

What is still unknown

• What occupies N-002, N-015, N-017, N-018 and N-020 (and whether the five blanks correspond to the five unnumbered cards at all)
• Whether N-023 and beyond exist (no total card count has been announced)
• Whether C, S or CP go past 001 (only 001 is confirmed for each)
• The rule behind the numbering (deck order, character order, card type, or something else)
• Whether the demo numbers carry over to the retail product (the Gen Con cards are SAMPLE / NOT FOR SALE demo prints)
• The numbers on the 12 artwork samples, including Boruto Uzumaki and Tsunade

Summary

• Four card-number prefixes are confirmed: N, C, S and CP. C, S and CP all stop at 001, and only CP-001 carries multiple versions under one number
• In the main N series, 17 of N-001 to N-022 are assigned and five are blank (N-002, N-015, N-017, N-018, N-020)
• Exactly five confirmed cards have no readable number. The counts match, but no official source ties them together
• The two Gen Con demo decks total 22 distinct cards including Leaders, matching the highest known number N-022 — though no official statement equates the two
• The bands look like “N-001–N-011 = Naruto deck / N-012–N-022 = Sasuke deck,” except that Karin, a Sasuke-deck card, is N-010, and three unnumbered Naruto-deck cards cannot all fit the single free slot in that band
• The 12 ARTWORK gallery cards have no published number at all, and Boruto Uzumaki and Tsunade appear only there
