Suigetsu Hozuki (N-021) Is the Only Card That Says "Will Not Be Affected" — One Ally Walks Through Six of the Seven Known Removal Cards

This is part 9 of our single-card analysis series. Today we read Suigetsu Hozuki (N-021).

This card has turned up repeatedly in our tally articles — as one of the two [Quick] cards when we counted that keyword, and as one of the eight cost-1 Characters when we lined those up. But it has always been one row of a table, never the subject.

Read head-on, Suigetsu is the only known card that says it protects an ally.

Basis for this article: Suigetsu’s card face comes from high-resolution scan images of the English-version demo card distributed at Gen Con 2026, posted by an X user. Neither the official site nor the official X accounts has published this card face or a Japanese version of its text. The jutsu name is given on the English card as “Water Transformation Jutsu.” Because the source is not an official one, this article carries no quoted image. Our tallies are based on the 38 entries in our card database — 24 with readable effect text, 20 Characters with readable stats. The official rulebook and card list are still unpublished, and anything speculative is marked as such.

1. Reading the card face

The effect text is two lines.

[Support] Water Transformation Jutsu [Quick] Choose 1 Character: Summon this card, and the chosen card will not be affected by your opponent’s Support effects during this turn.

The final clause of the second line is the whole card.

2. There are three ways to stop an opponent, and Suigetsu’s belongs to one card

Pull every phrasing that stops or blanks an opponent’s action out of the 24 cards with readable text and you get three groups.

“Negate that card” (2) — Kakashi Hatake N-009 and Shisui Uchiha N-016. As covered in yesterday’s article on Kakashi, these cancel the opponent’s Support as it is activated
“Interrupt that attack” (1) — Shikamaru Nara N-008. As confirmed in our article counting attacks, no other known card is written this way
“Will not be affected” (1) — Suigetsu Hozuki N-021

The first two reach the opponent’s card or action itself. The Support is negated, the attack is cancelled — the effect simply never happens, for anyone.

Suigetsu works differently. It does not stop the opponent’s card at all. They may still play the jutsu, and the effect still resolves. It just does not reach the one ally you chose.

In the known pool, “protect a specific card from an effect” is written on this card and nowhere else.

3. Suigetsu’s immunity points at six of the seven known removal cards

Why that one clause matters becomes clear when you lay it over our article counting removal.

Seven known effects can take a Character off the board. Here is where they come from.

Six of them are Supports — played face down and flipped up. Here they are.

Hinata Hyuga ([8-TRIGRAM] Air Palm) — K.O. 1 non-EX Character

Jiraiya N-006 (Fire Style: Toad Flame Bombs) — K.O. up to 2 rested Characters

Naruto Uzumaki N-004 (Rasengan) — K.O. all Characters
Sasuke Uchiha (Chidori) (Chidori: One Thousand Birds) — K.O. all Characters

The seventh is Sasuke Uchiha N-014’s [On Summon], which is not a Support.

So Suigetsu’s clause — “will not be affected by your opponent’s Support effects” — points directly at six of the seven known removal cards. And the bottom two say “KO all Characters,” which reads as letting one ally survive a board wipe.

Unconfirmed: how far “will not be affected” reaches is not written. Does it prevent the card from being chosen as a target at all, or does it allow the choice and stop the result? Whether it works against effects that do not choose targets, like “KO all Characters,” is also unreadable from the card. The reading above takes the clause at face value.

Unconfirmed: a bigger question sits underneath it — when [Quick] can actually be played is unannounced. [During Your Opponent’s Attack] and [During Your Main] name their own timing; [Quick] does not. If it cannot be played during the opponent’s main phase, it never arrives in time for the two [During Your Main] board wipes. Until that is settled, what Suigetsu can actually prevent is not settled either.

4. “Summon this card” — after the save, a 5/5 stays on the board

The other clause worth stopping on sits in the middle: “Summon this card.”

Four known cards contain it.

As set out in our article on reading face-down Supports, this type does not go to the trash when played as a Support — it stays on the board as a Character.

For Suigetsu, playing it from the Support area does two things at once.

Suigetsu itself arrives as a POW 5 / HP 5 Character

A card spent on defence becomes a body on the board — the same “one card, two jobs” structure we described in the Choji article.

Speculation from here: the two negate cards (Kakashi N-009, Shisui N-016) say only “negate that card” — nothing about staying on the board. In the known pool there appears to be a split: negation disappears, protection stays. With so few cards, though, there is no telling whether that is design intent.

5. {Water} appears twice, {The Taka} six times — the two lines Suigetsu sits on

Suigetsu’s traits are just {Water} and {The Taka}. Of the 22 cards that have both readable text and a trait line, 5 carry two traits, 10 carry three and 7 carry four — so Suigetsu is in the smaller group of five.

As set out in our EX Character article, EX Characters are a separate pile printed with “Cannot be summoned normally.” So the only known {Water} Character that goes into an ordinary deck is Suigetsu.

{The Taka} — three non-EX Characters, and they are the three that pay Sasuke EX’s cost

Of those six, only Karin, Jugo and Suigetsu are Characters you put in a deck — the Leader does not go in one, the EX Character cannot be played normally, and the ARTWORK entry has no published card number, cost or effect text.

Now re-read Sasuke Uchiha N-014’s summon requirement.

[Summon Requirements] Place 1 of your Characters and 1 of your {The Taka} type Characters in your trash.

Those three cards are the only known ones that can pay the “{The Taka} type Character.” Suigetsu is one of them.

Speculation from here: Jugo N-019’s [When Attacking] reveals the top of the deck and summons it if it is “Sasuke Uchiha” or a non-EX card with {The Taka}, and Sasuke Uchiha N-012’s Leader ability puts a card from hand on top of the deck. The pieces for a {The Taka} deck look like they are there — but how far “colour” constrains deckbuilding is unannounced, so there is no guarantee these three can share a deck.

6. POW 5 / HP 5 — one of only two even splits at cost 1

Now the numbers. Here are the eight known cost-1 Characters.

POW+HP is 10, the most common figure at cost 1. What stands out is that POW and HP are the same number. Among the eight cost-1 Characters, only Hinata Hyuga and Suigetsu split it evenly.

In the Karin article we read Karin (4/6) as the same total pushed furthest toward defence, and in the Kakashi article we read Kakashi (7/4) as the attacking side. Suigetsu is neither — it sits in the middle.

Rarity is C. As set out in our rarity article, where the average C outscored the average R, nothing in the known pool suggests C is designed to be the weak slot.

Speculation from here: Suigetsu’s effect is defensive, so it does not need to out-stat the board on the turn it is played. An even split at cost 1 looks like a card meant to be fine either way — used as protection or simply played as a body — but there is no official comment.

7. What is still unknown

When [Quick] can be played (can it be used on the opponent’s turn? Until this is settled, the range it can cover is not)
How far “will not be affected” reaches (does it block being chosen as a target, or only the result?)
Whether it works against effects that do not choose targets, like “KO all Characters”
What counts as a “Support effect” (only effects from a card flipped up in the Support area, or also the effect of that card played as a Character?)
Whether your own Supports pass through (the text distinguishes “your opponent’s Support effects,” but as our article on “your” vs unmarked targets showed, exceptions exist)
How far “colour” constrains deckbuilding (which Leader can actually run a {Water}/{The Taka} card)
The Japanese jutsu name (only one Japanese jutsu name has been confirmed on an official card face so far)

Summary

Suigetsu Hozuki (N-021) is a Character card, rarity C, with CHAKRA 1 / DMG 1 / POW 5 / HP 5 and the traits {Water} and {The Taka}
