Manda (N-022) Has the Only Unconditional Summon Requirement Among the 4 Known EX Characters — Yet Its Own Power of 8 Cannot Fuel Any Other EX

This is the 10th article in our single-card analysis series. Today we read Manda (N-022).

This card carries the highest number in our card database, and it has shown up in our roundup of the 4 EX Characters and in our article on the three cards that reveal the top of the deck. But it was always “one of four” or “one of three” — never the subject itself.

Read head-on, Manda is the EX Character with the widest entrance and the narrowest exit.

About this article: Manda’s card face comes from high-resolution scan images of the English demo card handed out at Gen Con 2026, posted by an X user. Neither the official website nor the official X account has published this card face. Because the source is not an official one, this article does not include a quoted card image. All counts are taken from the 38 entries registered in our card database (24 with readable effect text, 20 Characters with readable stats). The official rulebook and card list are still unpublished, and we clearly separate speculation from confirmed fact.

1. Reading the card face

The effect text is three lines.

Cannot be summoned normally. [Summon Requirements] Place 1 of your Characters in your trash. [On Summon] Reveal the top card of your deck, and if the revealed card is a non-EX Character, summon that card.

As we organized in the EX Character article, all 4 known EX Characters begin with “Cannot be summoned normally” and are summoned by placing your own Characters in the trash rather than by paying Chakra. Manda follows that shape.

What is worth reading here sits in both line 2 and line 3 — how it comes out, and what happens when it does.

2. Summon Requirements — the only EX that costs 1 card with no condition

Here are the Summon Requirements of all 4 known EX Characters, sorted by how many cards they cost and what condition is attached.

Manda is the only one that costs a single card with no condition. The text ends at “Place 1 of your Characters in your trash.” — no power floor, no type requirement, no card name.

Gamabunta N-005 also costs one card, but it must have 10 or more power. As we confirmed when we read Gamabunta on September 15, only 3 known cards meet that bar on their printed power alone — and all three are EX Characters. Same “one card,” completely different weight.

As we noted in our article sorting payments into 7 kinds, “place your own Characters in the trash” is a cost that shrinks your board, unlike Chakra. Manda is the known EX that asks for the smallest amount of it.

Speculation from here: Across the 4 known cards, the heavier the Summon Requirement, the more direct the On Summon effect. The two-card EX Sasuke N-014 says “Choose 1 Character: K.O. the chosen card,” while the one-card Manda says “reveal the top card, and if it hits, summon it.” It reads like trading certainty for cheapness, but with only 4 EX Characters known, we cannot call that a design rule.

3. But Manda itself cannot pay for another EX

Here is where the card gets interesting. Manda is the cheapest EX to summon, and simultaneously the EX that is least useful for summoning other EX Characters.

The reason is its printed power.

Manda is the only one of the four whose printed power falls short of 10.

And both Gamabunta N-005 and EX Naruto N-003 demand “1 of your Characters with 10 or more power.” Which means:

Manda cannot be used to pay for either of them. The other three EX Characters can fuel each other; Manda sits outside that loop.

And what Manda’s On Summon can put on the board is “a non-EX Character.” Manda cannot chain into another EX either.

• Entrance (summoning Manda): the broadest condition of any known EX
• Exit (connecting Manda to others): the only known EX that links to no EX in either direction

In our article on Rush and the power-10 line we mapped “power 10” as a boundary appearing in three places. Manda is the only EX placed on the outside of that boundary.

Unconfirmed: It is not published whether “10 or more power” is judged on the printed value alone or includes power added by effects. If Naruto Leader N-001’s “+3 power” or Choji Akimichi’s “power is doubled” can push Manda to 10 or more, then the above only means “not on the printed value.” How a Character’s power is referenced at the moment it is placed in the trash as a cost is also unwritten.

4. On Summon — the broadest hit condition among the known deck-top reveals

Now line 3.

[On Summon] Reveal the top card of your deck, and if the revealed card is a non-EX Character, summon that card.

As we counted in our article on cards that say “if”, three known cards share the sentence “Reveal the top card of your deck, and if…” Line up their hit conditions and the difference is stark.

Only Manda checks neither a card name nor a type. The condition is simply “is a non-EX Character” — as long as it is a Character card rather than another kind such as a Chakra Card or a Summon Card, it hits.

• Manda N-022 (non-EX Character) 1clauses（20%）

Itachi’s clause count is also 1, but the content is a specific type: {Uchiha Clan}, which our types article counts on 6 known cards. Manda’s “non-EX Character” is a card-kind check, so every Character card in the deck is a hit.

Unconfirmed: That said, the composition of the 50-card deck (how many Characters, supports, and Summon Cards go in) is unpublished. As covered in the Chakra Card article, the 5 Chakra Cards sit outside the deck, but how many Summon Cards (S-001) a deck holds is unknown. We are not yet at a stage where hit rates can be put into numbers.

Unconfirmed: What happens on a miss is also unwritten. As our conditional effects article confirmed, no known card writes an alternative (“if not, then…”) clause. Whether the revealed card returns to the top of the deck, goes to hand, or goes to the trash is unpublished.

5. Reading the numbers — the lopsided POW 8 / HP 10

Place Manda’s stats among the 20 known Characters. First, HP.

HP 10 is tied for second highest among known cards. In terms of the “three tiers” we identified in our full stats article, Manda sits firmly in the top tier.

Its power, though, is 8. That is lower than Jugo N-019 at 9, the highest among known non-EX Characters. An EX Character that loses a power contest to a card that goes in a normal deck.

DMG is 2. Among the 4 EX Characters, EX Naruto N-003 and EX Sasuke N-014 have 3 while Manda and Gamabunta N-005 have 2 — and both DMG 3 EX Characters have Rush. Manda does not.

Speculation from here: Manda’s numbers read as a card meant to stay, not to swing. HP 10 holds the board, and the moment it lands it calls another card — power 8 and DMG 2 look like incidental damage on top. But the combat resolution procedure (how POW, HP, and DMG are compared) is unpublished, so this cannot be confirmed.

The rarity is R. As our rarity article showed, the 4 EX Characters split into 2 SR, 1 R, and 1 C — there is no “EX means high rarity” correspondence.

6. {Snake} appears on exactly one known card

Manda’s types are {Special} and {Snake}.

{Special} appears on 15 known cards per our types article, but {Snake} appears on Manda alone.

The other types held by only one known card are:

• {Toad} and {Mount Myoboku} — Gamabunta N-005
• {Hyuga Clan} and {Team 8} — Hinata Hyuga
• {Five Kage} — Minato Namikaze N-007
• {Hidden Sound Village} — Orochimaru
• {Snake} — Manda

Lined up, it is clear that the summoned-creature side of the type list is still thin. Gamabunta and Manda are the great toad and the great snake that mirror each other in the original series, but on cardboard they share no type and no effect references the other.

Speculation from here: As confirmed in our article on cards that name other cards, Gamabunta’s On Summon names [Naruto Uzumaki], [Jiraiya], and [Minato Namikaze]. That Manda, on the same summoning side, has no effect naming Orochimaru or Sasuke Uchiha may simply reflect how few cards are known. Whether any card will reference {Snake} is unpublished.

7. What is still unknown

• Whether “10 or more power” includes power added by effects (if it does, Manda can fuel other EX Characters after all)
• When the Summon Requirement is paid, and how power is referenced at that moment
• Where the revealed card goes on a miss (no known card writes an alternative clause)
• The 50-card deck composition (without the Character/support/Summon Card ratio, hit rates cannot be calculated)
• Whether summoning an EX Character costs Chakra (per our cost article, no cost field has been confirmed on any of the 4)
• How many EX Characters a deck may hold, or whether they go in the deck at all (unpublished, per our summoning routes article)
• Whether any effect references the {Snake} type
• The Japanese card name and effect text (only the English demo card has been confirmed)

Summary

• Manda (N-022) is an EX Character, rarity R, with DMG 2 / POW 8 / HP 10 and the {Special} and {Snake} types
• Among the 4 known EX Characters, only Manda’s Summon Requirement costs a single Character with no condition attached. The other three specify “10 or more power” or the {The Taka} type
• But Manda’s own power is 8. It is the only EX that cannot pay the “1 Character with 10 or more power” demanded by EX Naruto (N-003) and Gamabunta (N-005), and its On Summon can only put out a non-EX Character — the only EX that links to no EX in either direction
• Three known cards reveal the top of the deck, but only Manda checks neither a card name nor a type (the condition is just “a non-EX Character”)
• HP 10 is tied for second highest among known cards. Power 8 falls short of Jugo’s 9, the non-EX high — the numbers favour staying over swinging
• {Snake} appears on Manda and no other known card
